One of those thoughts I just had wake me up in the middle of the night:
If we used the IMAP/EMAP algorithm, told the system to use the Baro as the EMAP and then we were allowed to use negative values in the VE and ignition Y-axis we would essentially have similar VE and Ign control as Haltech with KPA delta from atmosphere. It could also be a bit more consistent for altitude tuning and baro fuel add table if atmosphere was 0 in the VE no matter the KPA.
