That's a good setup for testing a trigger wheel and sensor distance. 8-) If you just want to check function, whether on the vehicle or on the bench, just apply power and connect an LED and resistor from the +V wire to the sensor signal pin. Most automotive Hall sensors are open-collector or open-drain, so it will light the LED when something ferrous (wheel tooth, wrench, etc) comes near.
