Help with building your Speeduino, installing it, getting it to run etc.

Hello all. I recently noticed my crank signal input pin on my v.04 board is giving out 5v, despite the fact it is an input pin. Is this normal?

I have the crank and cam sensors set to the Hall effect sensor setting, and am having trouble getting a reading. I think it may be because the crank signal wire is floating at 5v, and my open collector style hall sensor is not switching between on and off states because the crank input pin is outputting 5v.

Any clarification is greatly appreciated, especially if I am misunderstanding something or don’t know what I am talking about.

Thanks!

Both crank and cam inputs have optional pull-ups which is likely the voltage you are seeing.
Hall sensors don't typically output a voltage but pull to ground. Sometimes a hall sensor can have internal pull-ups (usually to the +12v supply).
If your hall sensor puts 12v you need the diode block as described in the wiki to protect the speeduino input
