Help with building your Speeduino, installing it, getting it to run etc.

Hello,

Please walk me through digital dash options like I'm a newb, a baby newb. I'm a car gearhead not a computer guy.

My latest project won't have any space for mechanical gauges in the dash. The fuel tank is under the cowl and is right up against the backside of the dash area. So I am exploring digital dash options to mount a tablet on the dash.

Android Real Dash or Shadow Dash vs Windows Tablet running TunerStudio?

I believe I can set up both the android and the windows to boot when 5v power is supplied to the usb port, as well as open the app/program at boot. What about auto shut down when power is turned off? Is the HC06 the best way to communicate to the tablets? When using windows I think having bluetooth communication prevents the mega from a reset when TunerStudio loads, right? My memory of bluetooth was an atrociously slow data/update rate no matter the baud settings making the tunerstudio gauges jittery and laggy, is that still the case? Does that happen with android too?

I'm leaning towards a windows tablet with tunerstudio so I can run VEAL constantly as closed loop learning. Does Real Dash or Shadow Dash have a version of VEAL? But ultimately the fastest boot time and smoothest operation will win.

Thank you for your input!

I believe I've got a plan for the digital dash on this project...

Tunderstudio on a PI5, 7" touch screen DSI built into the fiberglass dash panel.

Once Tunerstudio is set up I can let it autorun on boot & auto full screen for the dash. I can "User Action" and "Action Trigger" VEAL to auto start conditionally giving me the "Learning" kind of like how the name brand systems do it.

If I Read Only "Write Protect" the OS on the SD card it shouldn't corrupt when the power supply is turned off, and it'll auto boot when power is turned on. If I tell Tunerstudio in the preferences to not load and save the current tune it should draw the tune as loaded from the Speeduino on boot up every time, preventing a conflict in the difference report between the locked tune on the SD card vs the controller.

By building the "carputer" into the body it saves me having to physically remove, store and reinstall a tablet on the dash every time I park & get out then back in to the car.

Parts are on order and then the experimenting can begin.
