Hello I'm new to speeduino and getting ready to install a detonationEMS 1.3 board with a josh Stewart max9926 vr board with that said I am going to be setting this up for fuel only as far as I understand I will input my coil single into the vr1 input and I must use a opto coupler inline with my single coming from my coil is this correct also I have a opto coupler pic attached will this coupler work and I do have the vr board do I need to run that as well please all help is appreciated

No need for the vr board when using opto on input.

That opto is unlikely to survive long with the pulses from the coil. There is a thread on here that details the sort of opto circuit you need to work and survive a coil trigger.

As dazq pointed out, the opto will not handle the flyback spike from the coil and with an optocoupler the output will be the same as a hall sensor so Direct+Pullup.

Here's the circuit that I used on a friend's Fuel only+distributor car. The circuit is a copy from MS, PCB plugs into the VR conditioner socket of the speedy board(and as such that jumper needs to be configured when using it), negative pin of the ignition coil connects to VR1+ with this module.

Ok thank you for all the help I am going to build the circuit you suggested if anyone need the vr board that I have I will give it away because I no longer need it just send me an address in pm and I will mail it to you but again thank everyone for the help I'm sure I will be asking some more questions before I have this project completed if anyone is wondering it's going on a factory Suzuki ama superbike from 1991 that has been getting completely rebuilt from ground up for the past 3 years this spring I hope to be riding it with any luck and help from everyone on this forum for the speeduino questions I will have thanks
