the search function appears on my computer as very light gray with white letters.
there is no contrast and it is nearly impossible to read it.

In general I am struggling here with this forum to descipher and guess things.
Just below this window now,
"Disable BBCode
Disable smilies
Do not automatically parse URLs
Attach a signature (signatures can be altered via the UCP)
Notify me when a reply is posted"

It's all light grey on white. Is this supposed to be some kind of lemon-secret-ink?

Its not ideal but it is easily readable on my screen. I have had similar issues in the past and it was because the monitor was old and the contrast was poor, have you tried adjusting your monitor?
