A VR sensor may have 3 pins too ( ground or signal -/ signal + / screen).
As you did not tell us the secret which Astra F you have got (maybe a 1.7 Diesel?) , no one can use the internet to find out for you, for example in your engines manual, which sensor you have got. Anyway, crank should be inductive = VR sensor with most Opelz. That does mean you need a VR conditioner of some kind on some Speeduino boards.

Leaving the input open, which is a very clever idea, simply not to connect things too complicated for you, leaves the input in an undefined stage, "floating". It may pick up any electrical noise from around the engine and show random readings if your installation is chaotic enough...

Good luck!
Also if you could reccomend and OEM crank sensor that i can just order at the local parts store and dont have to ship it from somewhere that would be great.
Thank you!

After weeks of search. here is the result, it is a VR sensor.
As it fits so nicely and works so well with such engines, maybe get a VR-conditioner?
You may find a Hall type with the same size, if you invest some time into searching. Also, depending on you mechanical skills, you may be able to make one fit that is shaped differently.

That engine is a Toyota 4efe so changing sensors isn't a big deal, I'm just piecing this together from the random cars I have laying about

If the sensor tests good at 540 ohms +/- 15% (460 to 620 ohms) and outputs a signal, then follow the Wiki for wiring (in correct polarity) and plug-in one of the several available VR signal conditioners. Done. Set for Rising or Falling and your approximate Trigger Angle and off you go. 8-)
