Hi All,

Off on another adventure I head.

I am changing out the 3VZ-FE in my toy for a VQ35DE out of a 2004 Maxima, I got the hole car for $800NZ drive it on the trailer. It is now mounted in the the chassis.

It looks like the development of the VQ35 decoder has not been finished, so time to head off on another direction.

I have seen a few people mount a 36-1 on the front pulley and run a hall sensor which seams to work, but is quite exposed of my application.

By the looks the flex plate (auto car) has the crank trigger on it, a funky looking 36-2-2-2. ie 10 teeth, 2 missing, 10 teeth, 2 missing, 10 teeth, 2 missing.

My plan is to add extra teeth to make it a 36-1 or 36-2 which should work with the standard sensor and location. I should know more latter today as the motor and box is coming out to be split.

And a bit more information.

Manual Throttle body, as it has a DBW factory
Open loop VVT (inlet cams only)
GT3576 Turbo and about 5-6 psi Boost should make approx 350HP +
Return fuel System. Factory is a dead head
Base Fuel pressure at approx 4 bar so factory injectors flow enough to support goal HP.
Flex fuel sensor (as it is already installed on truck) and ready for bigger injectors and more boost. 10psi supposedly the max safe
Manual controlled Auto.

I have allocated the speeduino IO to the drawing above, just not on that drawing. and I will need to add a uln2803, or uln2003 for more outputs

Life just got a whole lot easier. Here is a pic of the Flexplate. you can see the teeth. Will be nice and easy to cut the missing teeth in, to get a standard pattern. Just measure twice. Cut once

And some more time down the shed today, gearbox seperated and flex plate off. See full trigger pattern in pictures below. And location of the Hall Effect sensor.

Now back to the search function to find the best angle between missing tooth and TDC. Im sure i have seen it before somewhere. Before I start cutting new teath.

And Measured Once...... Need to take my good glasses down to double check the measurements. After a lot of searching on the best place to put the missing tooth its not really going to make a lot of difference, as the first tooth after the current gaps look like they align with TDC and the Cam sync of each set compression stroke.. Might just make it not at TDC for #1.

And must remember to remove one mark, or it will not be a 36-1 :D

Since this engine VQ35DE from a Maxima (FWD aka East West) will be getting used with its original Auto gearbox, it needs a few mods to make it behave in a North South installation.

To make this work the diff needs welding up. Well an Attempt at.

New Cross pin made with a hole in it to bolt the drive flanges together to stop them pulling out of the side gears

And of course front and rear drive flanges to be welded to the original axle splines.

Next job is to drop the lower sump and add a oil drain for the turbo.
