Help with building your Speeduino, installing it, getting it to run etc.

I am in the process of building a custom supercharger setup on my 87 f-150 5.0 and I'm getting close to having the fabrication part of the build complete. While I have most of the sensor setup and the injector setup figured out, I'm not real clear on what type of ignition setup I should go with. I can not use the distributor due to the fact that the manifold I've built to adapt the Eaton M90 supercharger doesn't have enough clearance for the use of the distributor. I'm looking at using the coil near plug system for GM's LS ignition system. What will I need to get to make this ignition system work in conjunction with a UA4C vC5?

Welcome. Please describe your trigger signal system (wheel(s), teeth or whatever, sensor types, etc).

I assume from your setup description above, you are looking to use 8 high-ohm paired injectors on 4 INJ channels, and waste-spark coils set-up similarly with 8 CNP D585 coils on 4 IGN channels? There are other options, so just checking where your brain is at.

Thanks for your response and yes I am going with the paired injectors on four channels and I picked up a set of LS coils this past weekend and will run wasted spark for my ignition. As far as what trigger setup I will use, that is open to what is recommended and what will be most practical to use. To give you an idea of where my brain is I can tell you that when it comes to engine building and fab work I am well versed in both. However, when it comes to ECU's, sensors and things of that nature I am still very new and have a lot to learn. The only time I've ever worked with that part of a engine setup was on a 86 2nd gen Honda Prelude which I converted it from pre-OBD to OBD 1. The pre-OBD setup only controlled FI and not ignition. I assume that I should be able to use the sensors that are currently on my 5.0 and I also assume that others will need to be added. Also, its been somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 or so years since I did that conversion on that Honda. I'm old school carb and distributor type but I know that fuel injection and crank fired ignition is far more superior, if it wasn't we would still be using carbs and dizzy's lol. So any and all input is needed and greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Richard Burnside

Cool. Sounds like you're on a good path. Let us know what trigger wheels, sensors, and other sensors you have to work with now, other options available (GT40 crank damper/wheel?), and let's put them together. Yes, carbs and distributors are a good basis, and your knowledge will transfer-over with only some clumsiness as you gather new terms and concepts - but the ease and capability once you get some of the "AHA!" moments will open many new doors. :)

I went to the bone yard when I decide to do all of this and got a set of GT-40 heads and upper and lower intake. It sounds like I should have gotten the crank damper/wheel of off it as well. I just got back from going to the bone yard and the 97 explorer that I got the heads and intake from was no longer there and there wasn't any others there with the 5.0 and so far none of the other bone yards in my area show that they have one. But, I'm not in a hurry to get this done even though I am excited to see what my creation will do when it's finished. I have a lot of pics of my adapter manifold for the M90 supercharger that I built and will post them if anyone is interested in seeing how I put it all together, I just have to take the time to transfer the pics from my phone to my laptop which I will probably do tonight.

Ok, after spending a small fortune and months of getting the mechanical part of my build close to completion and studying the Speeduino manual and doing some wiring and playing with the software this is where I am. I have my Ignition and injectors wired and hardware test complete and everything tested good. I have my crank position sensor setup and using a 2 wire vr sensor with a 36-1 wheel and getting a good signal there (I added a mini max vr conditioner) my CTL, IAT and TPS are hooked up and calibrated. I wired the ignition and injectors with relays after that my problems started. on the ign. and inj. i used and 12v trigger that is hot at ignition on and in start. Now I'm attempting to wire up the fuel pump but im confused about where my trigger wire comes from and my ground as well. I would start assuming but we all know what that can get us. I really could use some help, my days have become numbered and I just cant see myself leaving a project unfinished. any help would mean alot to me.

With no space for a distributor, what are you using for the oil pump drive? The mention of LSx coils suggests sequential spark that needs a cam syn signal. The '96-00 5.0 Explorer cam sync came to mind, although with semi-sequential a crank wheel alone is adequate.
