Hey guys,
I'm new, in all aspects, lol.
I'm not new to Jeeps per se, have a 1989 Wrangler now that has a 1998 4.0 running off a Horseshoe intake that I customized to accept a Holley 390 Double Pumper. I also run Dual Fuel, can switch from gas to propane. I've done other mods as well, interior, axles (Ford 8.8 geared to 4:10 with Eaton TruTrac), 2.5"lift with 31's, AC to OBA, etc.
I'm in the midst of building a Stroker engine (4.0 block with 258 crank to make 4.6L) and I feel it would be a bit much for my Jeep Wrangler YJ. Plus, I'm actually happy with it now, to be honest.
The stroker engine will have a custom Roller cam, roller rockers, timing chain with Torrington bearing, Edelbrock head and so on, so pretty built.
One of my dreams was to have ITB'S on a Cherokee dropped and Resto-Modded. The Stroker got out of hand, and so I fealt it deserved a true drift/street like platform- my dream XJ finally seemed to be able to be put to use. So here I am.
Now...... why I'm here. I am good with carbs, give me a Weber or Holley and I'm on it, autism kicks in with my Innovative PSB-1 and I'm getting power with Dynos to prove. EFI? No idea. Lost. Confused, lol. Speeduino seems to be the way to go, as I'm not building your typical Jeep or Jeep engine. Most programmers won'ttouch this project, lol. I can't wait to build it and post it. Big 4.6L with ITB's? FOX YEAH!!! I like smaller type startups, too, full control and clearly goofy engines. A Nifty Shifter" from Nick in Time is about to be ordered, because it's awesome, Arduino platforms are amazing, I just don't understand them, much less EFI. I am not a "drop in an LS and call it a day kinda guy". Clearly, who ITB's a Jeep Stroker? I do.
But where can I start? Where can I get programming and knowledge explained like I'm 5? Connections, etc. I ordered a book on it from SA Designs, in regards to EFI, to learn the basics. I'm clearly in "no man's land" here, but I have a feeling y'all can help.
Thank you for any advice and help on this!!! It will get built, just need some direction to get me started, then I tend to take off. Believe it or not? I learned my first carb like 2 years ago, it's been an AMAZING rabbit hole, still is. Weber 38, bought the Weber books, Smokey Yunick and David Vizard books, compared CFM, flows, dynos, AFR's, timing, CFD and so on, But I feel like I need to learn this Black Magic of EFI. Steep learning curves don't scare me, I will read what's posted and suggested and learn, not waste your time.
First question: will speeduino only work with OBD2? Does it totally replace ECU? Or piggy back?
