The reason I asked if i could also reverse the circuit is partialy due to my lack of knowledge (and slight fear i guess)of electronics, but after looking at it a bit more i realised its not that complicated.
at first i also didnt completely realise how it worked and why its ground based.
so i ordered a TIP 122 mosfet and a few 1k resistors. Im just gonna try to do it the regular way.

I already have a relay with a coil resistance of 85ohm and when opening it up it doesnt seem to have a resistor or diode inside which is good if i understand it correctly.

kinda got a gut feeling when re-reading the post I ordered something wrong...
So before retrying, is this a suitable transistor?
