Some people (like myself) want to be able to buy a unit already made and ready to go (plug'n'play)

Possibly, but the benefit is minimal. All of the components there were either expensive (Eg through hole 0.1% resistors etc) or were taking up board real estate that was needed have been converted on this v0.4.4. There are others that can be done, but they would either not provide any advantage or would require significant redesign of the board layout

Good point. It doesn't need to be small. 100x100 is small enough really.

According to the silkscreen it’s a v0.4.4 board. I did not do a side by side comparison, but I would say yes.
