6 Cylinder Wasted Spark

Hello,
question:
Speeduino Wiki states
"Note: The above example uses 'smart' coils with built in igniters. Do NOT attach high current (dumb) coils without adding an igniter"

I have a 6-coil wasted spark with build in amplifiers (ZSE004)....
Is the context "igniter" same as the context "amplifier" ?

If I opt to choose 6-coil wasted spark without amplifier, which igniter module do you recommend?
Jochem

Yes. Coil driver, amplifier, and igniter (ignitor) are a few terms that mean the same thing. See the image below or in the old Wiki, showing the coil driver between the Speeduino and the coil. A "smart" coil is simply a dumb coil with a driver built on-to or into the coil.

There are many, many choices. Do a search for those coil driver terms here on the forums for some examples of 1 to 4-channel drivers. A popular one is to use 3 of the 4 channels in the inexpensive "Bosch 211" driver module. Under $10 online using part numbers 0 227 100 211, 851 54011 102, 4D0 905 351, etc. If you are extremely budget-limited, you can solder and heat shrink wires directly to the module terminals to skip those connectors. The result is a module with wire leads similar in function to the QuadSpark. Many options. 8-)

Just for extra help here are the diagrams for the 3ch (aka a "209" )and the 4ch (aka the "211")Bosch modules

Hi Jochem,

Is your project a TR6?

What are you using for a crank trigger wheel and how are you mounting it?

Would love to see a photo.

Cheers
