Anything not specifically related to the Speeduino hardware. Eg sensors, bluetooth, displays etc

Hey there

So since I still struggle with my signal from the crank sensor (hall) i'd like to try twisting the wires. Can someone help me with how this should be done. Is it twisting just v- + signal wire? Or twist all three so includng v+?
Surprisingly I wasnt able to find much online since most hits are about Network cables.

Thanks a lot

This is the sort of cable I use for my hall sensors, the be version is the same but two core.
The inner wires are all twisted within the screen.

Hi @Dazq, was there a particular reason you went for such a cable? From reading on the interwebs people rarely seem to protect these wires. just curious, thanks!

This is actually almost identical to the cable used in the ford , jaguar and rover OEM wiring looms from which my harnesses are mostly constructed.
Some other sensors such as the TPS and 5v pressure are also often on this screened cable.

Thanks for the hint! Should the screen-mesh actually be crimped and bolted to the chassis?

At one end only should it be earthed, otherwise can form a current carrying path. Twisting is to cancel out common mode interference, electrical noise that will interfere with crank signal.

Connect the shield to earth / ground / negative at the ECU. That is safe and works.
There are quite some stock Ecu´s that do not use shielded wire for TPS and Hall-sensor, but most inductive pick-up´s have the wires shielded. That what I strongly recommend, too.

Thanks Chris, is it mandatory to chose a separate v- pin on the ECU or could it be attached/crimped to the ground from the sensor? Unfortunately i lack the theory of what affects what in this regard.

Thanks!
